The game centers on the novels' protagonist Alice, whose family is killed in a house fire years before the story of the game takes place. The game's premise is based on the Lewis Carroll novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking-Glass (1871), but presents a gloomy, cruel and violent version of the setting.
